Application:

4-Methylquinoline (Lepidine) (CAS: 491-35-0) is used as intermediates of dyes, medicines and photosensitive materials. 4-Methylquinoline belongs to the class of organic compounds known as diphenylethers. These are aromatic compounds containing two benzene rings linked to each other through an ether group. Its methyl group is fairly acidic, allowing for condensations to occur at this position, especially when the nitrogen is quaternized. 4-Methylquinoline is used as a reagent in the synthesis of azetidine based ene-amides as potent bacterial enoyl ACP reductase inhibitors. Also used as a reagent in the synthesis of cyanine-styryl dyes with enhanced photostability for fluorescent DNA imaging.
